Half the England team conspire against The Secret Footballer
“It isn’t because we’re a superior breed – even I wouldn’t take on that argument with half the England team conspiring against me” – Hmmm he is saying half of the England team are against him. Is he Wayne Bridge?! – Third paragraph from the end of the article on March 12th.

Interesting.
So do you think he saying then that if he were hypothetically gay and came out to them knowing it would stay with them only, half of them would still then conspire against him?
Here’s the whole paragraph:
“Amazingly, having said all of that, I’m pretty sure a gay player would have few problems coming out to his team-mates if he were offered a hypothetical, “nobody outside the team will ever find out” clause. It isn’t because we’re a superior breed – even I wouldn’t take on that argument with half the England team conspiring against me. Quite simply, it is because we’re all about looking after ourselves and, consequently, we try not to get too involved with other players’ trials and tribulations.”
It’s a confusing paragraph i think. I’m not sure he is suggesting half the England team are against the TSF or that certain players dislike him. More, there are some predictable characters in the England squad who’d behave like arses.
It appears to me that he’s stating that the behavior and actions of half the England would be undermining any argument over whether the team is a ‘superior breed’ of people, rather than any comment over rifts in the dressing room.
