Doesn’t seem the sort of guy who would have a problem cheating on a long term girlfriend.
If anyone can remember what his BBC columns were like, I think you can rule him out: http://news.bbc.co.uk/sport1/hi/football/6125528.stm

Kind of a lazy clue but his buddy Andy Carroll plays for Liverpool now.
Could Paolo wanchorpe be the foreign player rather than di canio?
He didn’t leave Newcastle after relegation like the article says. Can’t be him
I’m the secret footballer!
See you guys!!!!!
Another one we can discount in my opinion because he went through a youth system (Bolton’s) and not the lower leagues.
It has to be a newcastle player, because when he asks the agent to awnser his twitter followers, one of the questions comes from a username @smithy_NUFC. It’s on page 181.
6 – A lot of French players at Bolton
9 – Possibly Sammy Lee
21 – Last day relegation with Bolton
22 – Bolton and West Ham
34 – Captain
against
27 – Lowest league he’s played in is the Championship
30 – No financial trouble at any of the clubs
It’s definitely Nolan !! By the end of the book, anonymous player recall, when he was broke, and date with a girl on Blackpool boadwalk with 5 quids in his pocket just before he got his first profesional contract. If he was broke, he must live near Blackpool, he wouldn’t afford a long trip on a date. Nolan lived in Bolton when got his first contract, just 40 miles from Blackpool. Nobody from most popular choises where so near Blackpool when he got his first contract…
Could it be Stephen Hunt?
