Ok, so many of you have a problem with the ‘Paolo’ reference from the article on April 30th that I’m removing it from the checklist to see if we can get close without this clue.
In the article TSF had referenced a manager once saying “You all need to be more streetwise like Paolo”. Upon researching the Paolo could only have been Di Canio as others with the same name, such as Wanchope, where actually spelt differently, with a ‘u’ as in ‘Paulo’. However, many of you believe tho reference was actualy a red herring and a name had been inserted to protect the player’s identity.
As a result, checklist point 19 now has a strike through and all those candidates ruled out soley on the basis of not having played with Di Canio are now back in the frame.

I think we are gonna have to put the Di Canio item back in the checklist. Today’s secret footballer about Crazy Mario is very clear. Our secret footballer played with him

I think the speech marks present whenever Paolo’s name is used suggest that this may also be a red herring.
As noted above, the “Paulo” part is clerarly a substituted name…
Futre during his spell at Upton Park?
Is he talking about Tino Asprilla? Was he substituted in game against Villa? 200 miles spot on.
Dec 1 2007 – Benni McCarthy drove home after being substituted (playing for Blackburn v Newcastle) – game was at home though so can’t see it being a 200 mile drive?
But if we are saying that he may lie about that to protect his identity, how can we assume everything he says is the truth.
