Which Scandinavian was he referring to in the April 2nd article?
“I have learnt a huge amount that has changed both my philosophy on the pitch and my outlook on life. Perhaps more importantly, I have made some lifelong friends, like the Scandinavian I’ve known for so long that I forgot he wasn’t English once…”
Gudjohnson? Hreidarsson? Jaaskelainen? …?

It is Dennis Rommedahl. He tweeted a link to a Rommedahl goal and said something like “Nice one, Dennis.” Obviously on first name terms with him. Who played at Charlton at the same time Rommedahl did? Danny Murphy. It’s Danny Murphy.
Seems far too simplistic to me. Although it does suggest TSF played with Rommedahl…
This Scandinavian has to be someone who’s played in England for a long time. My first thought (as a Liverpool fan) was Sami Hyypia: played here for a decade and even made a sizeable donation to the local hospital where his kids were born.
Which would mean it has to be a one-time Liverpool player. Murphy would fit. Also Owen.
Jussi or Eidur…
It’s Danny Murphy. The Scandinavian in question is Sami Hyypia.
Indeed, Danny Murphy looks a likely candidate. Of course some don’t consider Finland to be part of Scandinavia, which would rule out Sami Hyypiä…
COuld be Riise. He was at Liverpool from 2001
I don’t think a footballer, along with most other people, would differentiate between Finland and Scandinavia. I don’t know about Hyypia (or Jaaskelainen) but Finns normally speak English with such a strong accent it’s virtually impossible to forget they’re not English.
Eiður Smári Guðjohnsen is scandinavian, don’t forget that. I think it’s Joe Cole.
Lets open up the Scandinavian possibilities. Perhaps the Rommedahl stuff was a Red Herring? How about:
Morten Gamst Pedersen? Ole Gunnar Solskjaer? Both have been around the British game for donkey’s years. Does that open up the possibilities any?
Seb Larsson (Arsenal, Birmingham, Sunderland) who has been in the UK since a young age.
If Eidur Gudjohnsen is “Scandinavian” as an Icelandic, then so is Gylfi Sigurdsson, Brynjar Gunnarsson & Joey Gudjohnsen (Reading, Reading, Bolton?).
Then there’s Jonatan Johansson (Charlton) and Shefki Kuji (Newcastle etc), Mikael Forssel (Chelsea, Birmingham) if you include Finns.
Thomas Sorensen (Sunderland/ Villa / Stoke), Niklas Bendtner (Arsenal)
Andy Johnson
Scandanavian friend = Aki Riihilahti (at Palace at the same time and wrote for Guardian)
Danny Murphy – played with claus jensen at fulham and charlton, Jensen spoke with a London accent and lived in the UK for years
Hyypia is Finnish, so not a Scandinavian. Cant be him.
I played against Danny as a kid at a tournament in Denmark. Book says TSF was in Denmark as a kid…..
Murphy played with Bjornbye for a few years at Liverpool too
